24 Nepalis stranded in Saudi Arabia, complain of the embassy’s non-cooperation

Nepali workers stranded in Saudi Arabia in July 2021

Saudi Arabia, July 15

As many as 24 Nepali nationals have been reportedly stranded in Saudi Arabia after a company fired them going against a court verdict. The migrant workers have complained the Nepali Embassy in the country did not cooperate with them in rescuing them.

The Topaz Gulf Company has been accused of firing the workers after they filed a case against the company for keeping them unpaid for seven months and the court verdict favoured them.

Although the court has ordered the employer to renew the contract and give them outstanding pays, the company has not followed it, the workers complain.

Netra BC, a permanent resident of Malarani of Arghakhanchi district of Nepal, says the workers are currently in Al Jubail of the country. The workers frequently telephoned the Nepali Embassy in Riyadh but did not pay any attention, according to him.

Another worker, Bharat Rai from Bhojpur, says some of the staff even told them not to call again.

BC says all the workers have stayed in a single room for the past two months.
