  • A unity government including Nepali Congress is a must for resolution of current problems
  • After the NC’s 13th general convention, the Oli government should go, making way for a national government
  • A gutsy government a must for political stability, economic development

Dhangadhi, March 1

CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has said a national consensus government should replace the KP Sharma Oli-led government after the 13th general convention of the Nepali Congress. It may be noted that Nepal has been quite critical of the government formed under his own party’s leadership.

Nepal, speaking at a Press Chautari Nepal-organised press conference at Dhangadhi on Tuesday, said there is no alternative to a consensus government.

Only a national unity government can resolve current problems, the former prime minister said, adding: For this, there’s a need to make the Congress a part of the government.

He claimed the idea is to solve current problems and not share important positions.

A gutsy government is a must for political stability, the UML leader said, adding that there’s no alternative to an impartial leadership for national development. Only that government, which can cut through obstacles by changing laws and state structures, can develop the country, he said.

We need to implement the new constitution and lead the country towards economic development, the UML leader said, stressing the need to hold civic elections within Baishakah so that local bodies have elected representatives.

By amending some laws, interim elections can be held within the month of Baishakh, he said.

Ties between Nepal and India have improved after PM Oli’s India visit, he said, adding: The rumours that India is imposing another blockade against Nepal are baseless.
