Seven parapilots rescued alive from Fewa Lake

Pokhara, March 1

An accident occurred during a pre-World Cup Paragliding competition in Pokhara on Tuesday. Rescuers have rescued seven parapilots, who had plunged into the Fewa Lake due to bad weather.

The pilots crashed into the lake while touching down as powerful winds blew all of a sudden, the organisers said, adding that harnesses kept them afloat on the lake before their rescue.

Another pilot had crashlanded on a tree in Armala. He too has been rescued. The rescued pilots’ condition is said to be normal. As part of the competition, the competitors had to fly from Sarangkot and land at the western coast of the Fewa. Two of the contestants landed on a different spot. While one landed close to the under-construction Pokhara international airport, the other landed near Gharmi.
