Kathmandu, July 17
India has denied charges coming from Nepal’s beleaguered Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli that it is behind the plot to topple his government, The Hindu reported today.
The report titled ‘India rejects Oli charge on Nepal political crisis’ quotes a high-level source in the Narendra Modi government as saying: “India did nothing to destabilise the Oli government; he could not deliver and the coalition government fell down. The fact that he still wants to stick to power despite not having the numbers in Parliament is totally undemocratic. There is interference by China and they are trying to win over members in each political party.”
The Oli-led government is in a serious crisis with the Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’-led CPN-Maoist Centre withdrawing support and tabling a no-confidence motion in the House with support from the Nepali Congress.
The source said Chinese Premier Xi Jinping was expected to visit Nepal soon, and Chinese officials were in Kathmandu to sort out issues in the government before that.
