Kathmandu, July 20
Speaker Onsari Gharti has called CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to create an environment for political consensus, as part of her efforts to end a standoff between the KP Oli government and the Nepali Congress-Centre combo that has tabled a no-confidence motion against the government in the Parliament.
She make this request while calling on Prachanda at his residence on Wednesday morning. The two discussed pushing parliamentary proceedings ahead on the basis of consensus among political parties represented in the Parliament.
Speaker said she is ready to prepare House’s priority list accordingly if political parties reach an understanding on its businesses. If there’s no understanding, Speaker told Prachanda, she will have no option but to carry on with the work schedule readied earlier.
In response, Prachanda said he will do his bit to create an environment for consensus among political parties, according to Speaker’s Secretariat.
Speaker Gharti plans to hold talks with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday itself.
She took the initiative for the creation of political understanding after a standoff between the KP Oli government and the NC-Centre combo. The government has been saying there can be no discussion on the no-confidence motion in the Parliament without passage of Bills related to the budget for the fiscal 2073-74 BS, whereas the combo has been seeking priority for the no-confidence motion.
