Kathmandu, July 20

The main opposition Nepali Congress has called a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Party on Tuesday. The meeting will take place at the Nuptse Hall of the Parliament Building at 8 am. The Parliament is preparing to convene discussions on the no-confidence motion tabled against the KP Oli government on Thursday itself.

The Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist Centre have tabled a no-confidence motion against the Oli government, accusing it of failing to resolve the Madhesh crisis and provide succour to the victims of last year’s quakes that killed around 10,000 people, caused infrastructure losses worth trillions of rupees and rendered thousands of people homeless. Most of these victims have still been living in temporary shelters in the open. The Federal Alliance comprising Madheshi and Janajati parties is in support of the NC-Centre move, though Madheshi leaders have indicated that they will not be a part of the new government anytime soon.

On its part, the CPN-UML, the party heading the Oli government, has described the no-trust vote a conspiracy. PM Oli has said he will face the Parliament instead of tendering his resignation.
