Police on Sunday rained lathis and boots on doctors, while they were protesting outside the CIAA headquarters demanding impeachment motion against CIAA Chief Commissioner Lok Man Singh Karki and expressing solidarity with Dr Govinda KC. Dr KC has been staging a hunger strike at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for 14 days demanding medical reforms and action against Karki for intervening in Kathmandu University’s entrance exams.
Solidarity for GKC Alliance had organised the protest outside the headquarters of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, in Kathmandu. Police arrested nine protesters, including TUTH resident Dr Badri Aryal, Sagar Pokharel, Bishad Dahal, Mirza Siddiqi and Bikram Oli.
The doctors carrying placards bearing slogans against Karki and CIAA’s activities had shouted slogans in favour of Dr KC and against Karki.
