Kathmandu, July 25
Dr Govinda KC, who had been staging a hunger strike for 16 days demanding reforms in Nepal’s medical education, ended his fast, at least for now, on Monday.
Dr KC, professor at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, broke his fast after reaching a four-point understanding with the government, on Sunday evening. Dr KC broke his fast, drinking juice offered by Saroj Nepal, a five-year-old patient, and Thobang Norbu Lama, a monk.
Dr Senendra Upreti, secretary at the Health Ministry and a member of the government talks team, also offered juice to Dr KC.
Dr KC has staged hunger strike several times in the past, in a bid to make the government introduce reforms in the country’s medical education sector.
