Prachanda: Nepal’s communist movement needs a new manifesto

Pushpakamal-Dahal-Prachand

Kathmandu, July 28

Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, chair of the CPN-Maoist Centre, said on Thursday a new communist manifesto is a must to take Nepal’s communist movement in a new direction.

There have been deviations in Nepali politics and its leftist movement, Prachanda said, stressing the need of a communist manifesto for course correction.

Prachanda, addressing a national unity convention of student unions close to the Maoist party, said: A new communist manifesto is imperative to steer the communist movement in a new direction.

There’s a need to operate the communist movement in a new way to ensure rights of every community in a changed political context, Prachanda said, adding: For all this, a new communist manifesto is necessary.

In the changed political context, implementing the Constitution and completing post-quake reconstruction work are the responsibilities of our party, Prachanda said, adding: Help from student unions is a must to complete these tasks.

The Maoist chief also advised student organisations to move ahead as per aspirations of students instead of operating like political parties. He said there’s a need to replace student leadership on time. If this does not happen, it has a bearing on party leadership also, Prachanda said.

The meeting announced unification of several student organisations that once belonged to Maoist parties and factions that were under the leadership of Prachanda, Badal, Matrika Yadav and Mani Thapa.

The meeting has constituted a general convention organising committee under the coordination of Narendra Neupane.

Former chief of the ANNISU-R, Ramesh Malla, handed over leadership of the committee to Neupane.

The panel has Ratna Dhakal and Santosh Bista as joint coordinators.

Malla said the committee will have to organise the general convention within the next six months.
