Kathmandu, August 7
Office-bearers of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (Saptari) have come to Kathmandu seeking help after Nepal Sadbhavana Party, which is affiliated to the United Democratic Madheshi Front, ‘captured’ the FNJ building located in Saptari district headquarters Rajbiraj.
It is learnt that the party captured the newly-constructed building while the FNJ district chapter was preparing to shift its base there.
Notably, the UDMF had issued threats to journalists based in Saptari during the Madhesh Movement. Owing to the threats, FNJ (Saptari) President Prakash Khatiwada and other office-bearers had left the district on security grounds.
Meanwhile, FNJ has objected to what it called ‘unauthorised capture’ of the FNJ building, blaming the Rajendra Mahato-led Nepal Sadbhavana Party for the same.
Ujir Magar, FNJ general secretary, asked the party to vacate the building without delay. In a press release, FNJ has also sought an investigation into the incident and action against the guilty.
FNJ (Saptari) has already objected to the capture. Om Prakash Sah, secretary of FNJ (Saptari), said they are preparing to opt for legal remedies against the party started mistreating journalists in the name of the Madhesh Movement and showing racist tendencies.
While some parties have claimed to have rented the building, Sah said in a press release that they have not taken any decision on giving the building on rent.
FNJ accused some leaders and their parties of creating anarchy in the name of the Madhesh Movement by mistreating journalists and human rights activists.
