Kathmandu, August 22
Nepal’s government is preparing to amend the transportation Act to increase traffic violation fines by up to ten-fold in the coming years.
As of now, a traffic rule violator is handed a fine of up to Rs 5,000. But after the Act is amended, the maximum fine that can be handed will reach Rs 50,000, said Chandraman Shrestha, director, Department of Transportation Management.
Shrestha said the Act is being amended to follow international practice, and to discourage drivers from violating the rules.
