Kathmandu, August 28
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ says handing over the responsibility to construct the Kathmandu-Terai Fast-track project to foreigners is beyond his imagination.
Dahal, who was fielding questions on a tv show on Nepal’s state broadcaster, said the erstwhile KP Oli government decided to build the road utilising domestic resources, and his party, an ally in then ruling coalition, supported the decision.
“When Oli ji was Prime Minister, I was coordinator of the hi-level political mechanism,” Dahal said during the course of the programme, ‘Sidha Kura Pradhan Mantri Sanga’, broadcast on Saturday night.
“The decision stands,” the Prime Minister said adding that rumours that the government was thinking otherwise were unfounded.
Dahal said opposition claims he committed to amending the Constitution in his letter to Indian Prime Minister Modi was untrue. “The letter had nothing but formal diplomatic issues,” the Prime Minister said.
“I raised the issue of revising the 1950 peace treaty when I first became Prime Minister. Now that an eminent persons’ group is reviewing the treaty, both governments will decide on the future course of action after receiving the group’s report,” he said.
