Kathmandu, August 30

Deputy Prime Minister and Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi and CPN-UML Vice-president Bhim Rawal nearly came to blows during a three-party meeting in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, on Tuesday. Other participants intervened and prevented the two from engaging in a fight as the dispute over Constitution amendment took a turn for the worse, a leader said.

Participants intervened and prevented Rawal and Nidhi from engaging in a fight as the dispute over Constitution amendment took a turn for the worse

The meeting that PM Dahal had convened turned tense after Rawal read out, during discussions over amendment, the press release that Nepal’s Embassy in New Delhi had issued about DPM Nidhi’s recent India visit in the capacity of Dahal’s special emissary.

Rawal said it was objectionable on the part of DPM Nidhi to discuss about Nepal Charter amendment with India’s Prime Minister and other Indian political leaders

While reading out the release, Rawal said it was objectionable on the part of DPM Nidhi to discuss about Nepal Charter amendment with India’s Prime Minister and other political leaders. This angered Nidhi and he countered thus: You have also received suggestions from foreigners and you too have informed foreigners (about Charter amendment).

Nidhi accused Rawal of receiving feedback from foreigners and apprising them (of amendment). Rawal denied this.

Rawal countered, challenging Nidhi to prove he has received foreign funding. When Nidhi claimed he has the proof, Rawal challenged him to show the proof.

The show ended with PM Dahal and others telling the two not to drag the issue further

In the nick of time, PM Dahal and other leaders intervened and told them not to drag the issue further. UML leaders have taken exception to the way Nidhi behaved at the meeting.
