Former lawmakers have urged the government of Nepal to provide them pension, funds for their treatment and discount on transport fares.

A team of ex-lawmakers under Omkar Prasad Shrestha, chair of Former Lawmakers’ Club, made this demand during a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at his official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday.

The former lawmakers said the state should provide them ‘minimum facilities in recognition of their service to the country and the people’.

Citing the practices in countries like India, the delegates demanded provisions for their free treatment in government hospitals, discount in transport fares and monthly pension.

The delegates also suggested Prime Minister Dahal to use the Former Lawmakers’ Club for creating understanding among different political parties.

The delegates included Omkar Shrestha and Krishna Kishore Ghimire from the Nepali Congress, Ghimire, Bishnu Bahadur Raut and Krishna Maharjan from the CPN-UML, Urmila Aryal from the CPN-Maoist Centre and Rameshwor Raya Yadav from the MJF (Democratic).
