Kathmandu, August 31

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Wednesday directed Local Level Restructuring Commission to continue with the task of determining the number of local levels in districts if political parties fail to come to an understanding by the evening.

During discussions with commission Chair Balananda Poudel at his official residence in Baluwatar, Dahal said he will do every bit to make parties agree on the issue till Wednesday evening (the deadline that the commission had given to parties to agree on the issue).

If parties fail to agree on the matter, the commission should complete its tasks without delay, commission member Sunil Ranjan Singh quoted PM Dahal as saying.

“If parties forge an understanding by Wednesday evening, we will sit for further discussions. But if they don’t, the commission should complete its tasks as per existing provisions,” Singh quoted Dahal as saying.  Singh said: PM has directed the commission to execute its tasks, keeping elections in mind.

Earlier, PM Dahal wanted to know from Poudel the bases for proposed 565 local bodies. Poudel replied that the commission is in favour of determining the number of local bodies and their jurisdictions in a manner that guarantees the rights of local bodies.

Dahal also wanted to know whether it is possible to increase or decrease the number of local bodies.
