Kathmandu, September 1
Efforts to build an understanding among three major political parties on local level restructuring have come a cropper for now. After this setback, the Local Level Restructuring Commission is preparing to continue works related to restructuring on its own.
The Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre had discussed local level restructuring throughout Wednesday, but failed to come to a concrete understanding, Chakrapani Khanal ‘Baldev’, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s political adviser, Chakrapani Khanal, told Onlinekhabar.
He said: There has been no understanding so far. We are for sorting out the issue within Bhadra (mid-September).
Decisive talks on local level restructuring will take place once Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli return home from abroad.
Khanal said interparty discussions on the issue will continue. Decisive talks will take place once Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli return home from abroad.
Before three-party talks, Prime Minister Prachanda had held discussions with commission Chair Balananda Poudel.
Meanwhile, the commission, which had stopped works related to restructuring at the request of the major parties, is preparing to resume the same.
The commission plans to direct district-level technical assistance committees to determine number of local levels (in districts concerned) and their boundaries and send their reports to it within the end of Bhadra (mid-September).
A commission member said they will not be able to submit their report to higher authorities within Asoj if they do not start working right away. As per the commission, only seven districts have sent details, including boundaries of local bodies, to the centre as of now.
