Explosions were heard in two schools in Kathmandu morning early on Tuesday, and security personnel grappled with reports of ‘suspicious’ objects being found in three more.

According to police, the explosions, which took place just as students prepared for their school day, were heard at Akashdweep Boarding School and Manakamana Secondary School, both based in Bouddha, east Kathmandu. Improvised explosive devices were found at both the scenes.

Photos coming in from the scene show that Akashdweep’s gate sustained damage following the explosion.

Within minutes of the explosion, suspicious objects were reported at three other schools in different parts of the Valley. According to local authorities, Rai School, Eastpole School and Radiant School informed authorities of the objects, and bomb disposal squads have been dispatched to the schools.

Police have detained two people in connection with the blasts.

Akhil Nepal Rastriya Swatantra Bidhyarthi Kendra and Young Communist Force, Nepal, have said they are responsible for the blasts.
