Kathmandu, September 20

It has come to light that a semi-underground outfit of former Maoist PLA combatants was involved in spreading terror by planting IEDs at around a dozen schools in the Kathmandu Valley.

Min Devkota, the self-styled leader of All Nepal Independent Student Centre, came into contact with Onlinekhabar over the phone and claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s act.

When Onlinekhabar contacted him, Devkota said: I planted bombs at schools. It was my design.

It has come to light that some fighters associated with then CPN-Maoist retained their weapons even when the party joined the peace process and opened the outfit. This group is behind the bomb terror, it is learnt.

From the sites, police have recovered pamphlets in the name of the student centre and Young Communist Force Nepal. In course of the conversation, Devkota made an alarming claim.

We are giving continuity to the people’s war.

He said they were giving continuity to the people’s war.

Two years ago, a panel under the Political Dialogue Committee had held talks with this group while the constitution-making process was underway. At that time, Baburam Bhattarai was Prime Minister and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi was Minister for Peace.

Maoist Communist Centre Nepal is a semi-underground outfit formed under Devendra Singh (DS) Mahat alias Nirman.

This outfit had handed over arms and ammunition to government at Makwanpur district administration office in the presence of a talks committee formed under Nepali Congress lawmaker Ananda Dhungana.

Mahat himself had handed over the weapons, including one SMG, 14 pistols and socket bombs.

Keshav Raj Ghimire was Makwanpur CDO at that time. He recalls: The group had handed over arms, admitting that the path of war that they had taken was wrong.

Mahat, who hails from Baitadi district, fought the Maoist-waged war for 10 years.

The assistant battalion commander of the Maoist PLA later left the party protesting the decision to lay down arms and switch to peaceful politics. He then founded Maoist Communist Centre Nepal by bringing likeminded people together.

Young Communist Force Nepal is a fraternal organisation of Mahat-led Maoist Communist Centre Nepal

According to Devkota, Young Communist Force Nepal is a fraternal organisation of Mahat-led Maoist Communist Centre Nepal. He said it is under Jitendra Shrestha ‘Suman’.

Even now, eight per cent children (of Nepal) do not have access to education, though right to education is a fundamental right. Now, our struggle will climb to new heights. We are active in the education sector now, later we may get active in health and transport sectors as well.
