Kathmandu, September 22

It has come to light that shops designated to sell goods at concessional rates during the upcoming festivities are not playing by the rule.

In course of monitoring, the Department of Supply Management and Consumer Welfare Protection found that a Salt Trading Corporation shop based in Jawalakhel was selling sugar packets that actually weighed less than 2 kg each by claiming that each packet contained 2 kg of sugar. While weighing, the monitoring team found that the packet weighed 1.98 kg of 2 kg.

With this, the department has intensified market monitoring, halted for two weeks, since Tuesday. The government started operating such shops last Saturday in a bid to provide some relief to the public during festivities.

On Thursday, the market monitored 17 shops. In course of monitoring, the team found that Sri Pokhara Pharmcy (Gongabu), Amin Pharmacy (Gongabu), Kamana Pharmacy (Gongabu), Universal Pharmacy (Tokha), Sri Jaya Ma Laxmi Medical Hall (Tokha), Gosaikunda Health Service Centre (Gongabu), Sri Patan Om Polyclinic (Lagankhel), Family Mile Dental Care at fault.
