(Updated) 17 people dead in Dhading bus fall, six brought to Kathmandu for treatment

The death toll from Tuesday’s bus accident in Marpak VDC, Dhading district, has climbed to 17. Six of the injured bus passengers have been brought to Kathmandu for treatment.

The bus numbered Na 4 Kha 3318 had fallen 500 metres down the road near Lapang Chautara while it was heading to Kintangfedi from Dhadingbesi. It had left Dhadingbesi at 7 am and met with accident at 11.30 am, according to police.

Superintendent of Police Sharad Khatri said 17 passengers — 13 male and 4 female — have died in the accident. The identifies of the victims are yet to be ascertained.

SP Khatri told Onlinekhabar that a chopper has airlifted six of the injured to Kathmandu. A Nepal Army chopper is heading to the site for the rescue of two seriously injured passengers, he said.

Khatri said: It has come to light that the bus had left Dhadingbesi carrying 27 passengers. Some more passengers may have got on board along the way.

It is suspected that the bus met with the accident because it was carrying passengers beyond capacity on a dirt road.
