Nepal deposits instrument of ratification of Paris Agreement on Climate Change

Nepal has deposited the instrument of ratification of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change with the UN Secretary-General on Wednesday.

The country’s Parliament on Tuesday ratified the historical agreement, and Minister was signed by Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat.

Similarly, Nepal’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) have also been sent to the UNFCCC Secretariat in the German city of Bonn by the Ministry of Population and Environment.

The agreement has been ratified by 72 states so far, and is set to come into force on November 4.

Nepal signed the agreement in April.

The Paris Agreement  is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gases emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020. The language of the agreement was negotiated by representatives of 195 countries at the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC in Paris and adopted by consensus on 12 December 2015.
