Dang, December 27
Hindu organisations on Tuesday shut the Mid-Western Region against what they believe is a mass cow slaughter that took place in Kailali district recently.
In Dang, police arrested a bandh enforcer and punished him in public.
Last Wednesday, local people had found the bodies of more than two dozen cows and bulls in Bhyagute of Godavari VDC, Kailali district. They announced closure of the region for a day demanding a probe into the mysterious case and action against the guilty, if any. On Sunday, local people had shut the Far-Western Region against what they believe is a case of mass cow slaughter.
Meanwhile in Dang headquarters Ghorahi, marketplaces have remained shut and public vehicles have remained off the road.
Enforcers had hit the streets of Dang early on Tuesday morning, forcing people to down shutters. Near Shahid Gate, police took one of the enforcers under control and gave him punishment (above).
This picture has gone viral on social networking sites. Some people have criticised police action. They pointed that police have singled out activists of Hindu organisations. They pointed that police had spared bandh enforcers from political parties in the past.
CPN-UML enforced a bandh, they did nothing. Police are now arresting protesters during the bandh that Hindu organisations and nationalistic forces have enforced. Has this country gone into the hands of non-Hindu and anti-nationalistic forces?
Narendra Pun wrote on Facebook: How strange! The (district) administration cannot stand cadres and leaders from Comrade Biplav’s (party). Recently, the CPN-UML enforced a bandh, but police did nothing. They are arresting protesters during the bandh of Hindu organisations and nationalistic forces. What is happening in this country? Has it gone into the hands of non-Hindu and anti-nationalistic forces?
Dang police took seven protesters under control from Ghorahi on Tuesday morning and six on Monday evening.
