Kathmandu, February 14
Employees of local bodies throughout the country have launched a movement, affecting millions of service-seekers.
These employees of grassroots and higher government bodies are demanding what they call their honorable integration into federal structures in keeping with the Constitution. At the call of Local Bodies’ Trade Union Central Coordination Committee, employees are staging a massive pendown demanding that local employees be transferred by bringing them within the ambit of the provincial treasury. They have also sought what they call a dignified integration of temporary and contract-based employees by floating an 18-point charter of demands.
As per Clause 302 (2) of the Constitution, the government of Nepal can adjust government employees into federal, provincial and local levels while implementing federalism.
These employees have threatened to halt even essential services and launch a decisive movement if the government does not invite them for talks with a pledge to address their demands.
