Maoists demand 2nd nomination chance after candidate’s ‘murder’ in Sankhuwasabha

Sankhuwasabha, June 19

The CPN-Maoist Centre has demanded that the party be allowed to file the nomination for the second phase of local level elections in Bhutkhola Rural Rural Municipality-2 of Sankhuwasabha district after the death of its candidate for ward chairperson.

Though local police and administration have claimed that Chhinang Bhote died during a family scuffle, the party has said he was murdered with political intentions while he was on his way to file nominations yesterday.

“Our candidate has been murdered before filing the nomination,” former minister and the Maoist party’s in-charge for Province 1, Gopal Kiranti, says, “The culprit must be booked and we should be given another chance for nomination.”

He further claims that the CPN-UML planned the murder.

But, Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan Mani Ghimire says Bhote was stoned to death during a fight with his kin.

“The incident had happened at around 5 pm,” he says, “But, the nomination time was already over at 4 pm.”

Further investigation is underway.
