Kathmandu, June 19
Home Minister Janardan Sharma says the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal had agreed to field its leaders and cadres as independent candidates in some places after the government decided to postpone local level elections in Province 2.
Though the party has officially decided to boycott the polls, the party had consented to contest the polls as independent candidates, Sharma claims.
The RJPN cadres had been found filing nominations in many places including three local units of Rupandehi district yesterday.
Speaking with journalist in Butwal of Rupandehi today, Sharma said the agitating party did not officially take part in the polls just because it could not get registered at the Election Commission owing to lack of time.
Before that, Sharma addressed a meeting of security officials of Province 5 in Butwal today.
At the function, he directed the officials to effectively maintain peace and security for June 28 polls.
