‘No vote, no candidate’ campaign successful in Tingla of Solukhumbu

Locals stage a protest in Tingla village against the decision to annex the village into the Necha Salyan Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu district.

Kathmandu, June 28

The Ward 6 of Necha Salyan Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu district boycotted the local level elections on Wednesday.

The villagers in Tingla have been protesting the decision to make it a part of Necha Salyan. They had demanded that the village be made a separate rural municipality.

They had announced the “no vote, no candidate” campaign.

Subsequently, no one had decided to contest the polls in ward 6 of Necha Salyan. Neither has any voter taken their identity card for the elections.

Earlier, Nepali Congress leader Bal Bahadur KC had tried to field a candidate from the party. But, the candidate had later withdrawn the nomination owing to pressure from locals.

There were 2,586 voters registered in the village.
