A probe panel formed by the CPN-UML to investigate into the defeat of its Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam in Bardiya-1 in recent House of Representatives elections has found that the influential leader lost the polls due to his personal flaws.
Shocked by the defeat of one of key architects of the left alliance, which secured landslide victory in the polls, the UML had formed a panel to look into the issue.
The committee in its preliminary investigation found that Gautam himself was most responsible for the loss though lack of cooperation from some party insiders was also a factor.
These flaws included lack of emotional connection with the constituency, selection of inefficient leaders in the mobilisation committee, and his image as an anti-Madheshi and anti-Tharu leader among others.
The team led by Central Committee Member Baijanath Chaudhary submitted its report to the party’s Province 5 In-Charge Bishnu Paudel, identifying the betrayal of party leaders was just one among many factors.
Earlier, at a Standing Committee meeting held on Friday, Gautam had presented a list of nearly one dozen leaders including former lawmaker Shyam Dhakal whom he accused of contributing to his defeat.
