A confidant of CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli says his party will approach Madhesh-centric parties to bring them on board the new government whereas the left alliance is also open to the possibility of joining the provincial government led by the Madheshi parties in Province 2.

The party’s Standing Committee member Shankar Pokhrel says the party to lead the nation should not restrict itself to a comfortable majority only, therefore the UML has to take as many parties as possible into confidence.

“The leadership has to lead the nation to become successful. If we were only to run the government, the UML and the Maoist Centre could easily reach the mark of comfortable majority,” he says, “But, doesn’t the leadership need to think about unifying and leading the nation?  What is wrong in it?”

“As the leftist leadership has not been established in Province 2,” Pokhrel says in an interview with Onlinekhabar, “If we can participate in the government there with their support and if we can connect them into national politics, we can end the suspicion that if national parties are ignoring Terai.”

Further, the alliance will make the joint mission of UML and CPN-Maoist Centre, which are preparing for a merger, more effective, according to him.

Pokhrel is confident that top leaders of the parties, Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal respectively, also have the same understanding and they are working for it.
