Kathmandu, January 30
The CPN-UML, which is going to lead four of seven provincial governments in the country says it will try to force an understanding among the party leaders on who should be chief ministers. But, if the attempts for consensus fail, voting among provincial lawmakers will decide the candidates, the party decided.
A meeting of the party’s Standing Committee held in Kathmandu on Tuesday decided to open the option of voting if bids for consensus failed.
The left alliance, consisting the UML and the Maoist Centre, is preparing to lead provincial governments and legislatures in six provinces; namely 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The two parties have agreed that the UML will lead governments in provinces 1, 3, 4 and 5 and legislatures in provinces 1, 3, 6 and 7.
It is very likely that Shankar Pokhrel will led the government in Province 5 whereas there are more than one leaders to claim the chief minister’s position in provinces 1, 3 and 4.
Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to train its provincial lawmakers and chiefs and deputy chiefs of local governments about National Assembly election procedures.
