Kathmandu, February 8
CPN-UML leader Rajendra Pandey says he will contest for the party’s provincial parliamentary party leader in Province 3. Winning the poll will make him the Chief Minister of the Province as his party will hold a majority in the Provincial Assembly.
Pandey and the party’s central Vice-Chairperson Ashta Laxmi Shakya have been seen as top contenders for the election scheduled for Friday.
“We will pick the Chief Minister in consensus as much as possible; but we will hold an election if no consensus,” Pandey says, “If the election will be held, I will file my nomination. Chairman KP Oli has also extended his support to me.”
Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu today, Pandey said he would be the best candidate for the chief minister as he had already served as a lawmaker for four times.
He said he would promote development activities seriously in the Province.
In another context, he said his party would unify with the CPN-Maoist Centre very soon.
