The Poverty Alleviation Fund has fallen victim to poverty of the government. Owing to lack of funds, the government has decided to keep the institution dormant for an indefinite period.
The federal government has already transferred most projects run under the PAF to local governments, according to sources at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
Though there are not any projects with the PAF, the government has decided not to dissolve it. In order to save its existence, the government has allocated Rs 50 million to the PAF for the next fiscal year.
PAF Vice Chairman Nirmal Kumar Bhattarai says, “The Fund has turned dormant for now. If some donors express their interest in investments, the projects will move ahead again.”
The PAF was running different projects in 551 local units of 64 districts across the country.
The PAF was established in 2003 with the assistance of World Bank.
