Kathmandu, January 5
The parliamentary hearing committee has endorsed the nomination of Laxmi Bahadur Nirala to the post of member of the Judicial Council, the constitutional body that oversees the appointment of judges to the country’s various courts.
The committee endorsed former attorney general Nirala’s nomination after conducting a hearing on Sunday. The committee did not receive any complaints against his candidacy. Nirala’s recommendation to the post comes after Padam Prasad Baidik resigned as member of the Judicial Council on December 5, hoping to secure a nomination for the post of Supreme Court justice. However, Supreme Court Chief Justice Cholendra Sumsher Rana has hinted that Baidik may not be picked for the post.
