NCP orders Tumbahamphe to resign

The secretariat of ruling Nepal Communist Party has directed Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe, who was elected to the position on behalf of the party, to resign from the position so that the party can field its candidate for the speaker’s election expected to be held this week.
The directive comes a day after Tumbahamphe demanded in from of the party’s two chairs that she be made the party’s candidate for the poll, threatening she would initiate the election procedure otherwise, which would deprive the party of the top position.
Meanwhile, Tumbahamphe has told the press that she would defy the party directive and would commence the election procedure today as the deputy speaker.
Dahal hopeful of Biplav’s return

The NCP executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has hoped that Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’, who has been currently leading a small Maoist outfit, would come back to the NCP one day. For many years during the armed conflict, Biplav was a leader of the Dahal-led Maoist party, which later merged with the then CPN-UML to form the NCP.
Welcoming Mohan Karki, who recently defected the Biplav’s party, to the NCP on Saturday, the former prime minister said all communist parties should come together to lead the country towards socialism.
Dhanusha murder: Crusher entrepreneur arrested

A day after the alleged murder of a local youth who protested illegal sand mining in Dhanusha district, police on Saturday arrested a local trader who mobilised the tipper that killed Dilip Kumar Mahato. Following the arrest, the family of the victim let the investigators conduct the postmortem and collected Mahato’s body for final rites. So far four persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, the family of the victim filed a complaint about the case at the District Police Office.

Gyanendra Shah issues statement on Prithvi Jayanti eve

As the country is celebrating the birth anniversary of the 19th-century king Prithvi Narayan Shah on Sunday, former king Gyanendra Shah issued a press statement on Saturday evening, highlighting Prithvi Narayan’s messages about unity in diversity. Shah, in the statement, said no one should drag the country to any dispute. He also called everyone not to compromise on the country’s independence and sovereignty.
Youth arrested while breaking ATM in Kathmandu
Police in Kathmandu on Saturday arrested a 24-year-old youth while he was allegedly breaking an automatic teller machine (ATM) of Machhapuchhre Bank at Putalisadak. The suspect has been identified as Tilak Khadka, 24, a permanent resident of Triveni municipality-6 in Jajarkot district.
A team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Circle in Singhadarbar arrested him yesterday morning.
Further investigation is underway.

Minister looks for toilet papers while monitoring TIA
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai on Saturday monitored the condition of toilets at the country’s sole international airport to find that the facilities did not have sufficient toilet tissues. Neither was there a hand-drier. A straightforward Bhattarai then shouted at the officials, warning he would fire the under-performers.
Meanwhile, minister Bhattarai also visited various places of Pashupati area on Saturday.
