The end of the current fiscal year is just one month away, but the government still has Rs 196 billion in the treasury to spend in this period.
When Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada presented the budget plan for this year in May 2019, the government had set the expenditure target at Rs 1.532 trillion. Later, the government revised the target and set it at Rs 1.073 trillion.
Now, 11 months into the year, the government still has to spend Rs 196 billion to meet the revised target.
The government of Nepal has been criticised for its low spending capacity for the past many years. It could not improve its performance this year also.
