Kathmandu, October 20
The ruling Nepal Communist Party’s senior leader and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has protested the government’s recent decision to not bear the cost of Covid-19 treatment except for the helpless.
He has demanded that the government revoke the decision.
Nepal says the government led by the communist party should have been a common guardian to rely on during a crisis, but its recent decision was an example of irresponsibility.
In his statement on Tuesday, Nepal says, “The government cannot deviate from its responsibility of providing equal treatment to the citizens in such a pandemic… Existing legal provisions on infectious diseases have given the government this responsibility.”
He concludes, “I strongly demand that the government immediately withdraw the discriminatory, irresponsible, and unaccountable decision that has further terrorised the citizens.”
