The Supreme Court on Monday has registered four writ petitions that demand Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is sworn in again as the prime minister.
Oli had taken the oath of office and secrecy after being appointed the PM again on Friday last week. During the oath, he had skipped “I affirm” after telling President Bidya Devi Bhandari who was administering the oath that “it’s not necessary”, inviting the controversy.
Days after that, senior advocate Chandrakantha Gyawali among others, advocate Raj Kumar Suwal, advocate Santosh Bhandari among others, and advocate Nawaraj Adhikari among others filed separate writ petitions demanding the court invalidate the oath and order the PM to redo it.
They have also demanded that the court bar the PM from performing any work as the PM before retaking the oath.
One of the petitions has also demanded that the court order the PM to revoke the reappointment of some of the ministers as they are not parliamentarians. The constitution allows a non-parliamentarian to become a minister for maximum six months, but that should not be repeated in a single term of the House of Representatives.
