Kathmandu, June 1
Nepal has received 800,000 doses of Vero Cell Covid-19 vaccines from China as a grant on Tuesday. This is the first lot of the one million doses that Chinese President Xi Jinping announced to give to Nepal last week.
A Nepal Airlines aircraft that had left Kathmandu for Beijing last night came back to the Tribhuvan International Airport with the vaccines this afternoon.
The remaining 200,000 doses will be provided on behalf of the Tibet autonomous region of China, according to officials. That will arrive in Kathmandu on Tuesday and Wednesday in three segments, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier in March, China had provided 800,000 doses of Vero Cell vaccines to Nepal, also in a grant.
Officials say they are also preparing to purchase vaccines from various countries including China, but the efforts have not materialised yet.
