The government has declared Bhakti Thapa as the latest national hero (rastriya bibhuti) of Nepal.
The 73-year-old Thapa had sacrificed his life during a fight with the English army in Deuthal, which lies in Uttarakhand of India currently, in 1815.
The government spokesperson, Communications and Information Technology Minister Basanta Kumar Nembang, informed in his press briefing on Wednesday that a recent cabinet meeting declared him a national hero. With this, the number of national heroes of Nepal has reached 17.
