Design and display
The design of the new Samsung Galaxy A73 5G remains the same as seen in the previous generation of smartphones. The phone has a plastic frame and a plastic back along with a glass front. It has a familiar camera panel on the back of the phone with a subtle Samsung branding on the bottom. On the front, it has a small punch hole that houses the camera.
A major change on the phone is it is lighter and thinner than the previously launched phone. It weighs 181 grams and is only 7.6mm thick, making it comfortable on the hands or in the pocket.
Samsung Galaxy A73 5G features a similar 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ display with a resolution of 1,080*2,400 pixels. However, it offers a higher, 120Hz refresh rate compared to the 90Hz offered in Galaxy A72 last year. Furthermore, the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and also has IP67 dust and water-resistant certification. The phone has an under-display fingerprint sensor.
Cameras
Samsung Galaxy A73 5G has a quad-camera setup on the back with a single selfie camera on the front. Along with a brilliant display, Samsung is also well-known for its impressive camera performance and the new Samsung Galaxy A73 5G has upgraded what already was impressive.
The new device has a 108MP main camera on the back compared to the 64MP on last year’s Galaxy A72. The main camera is housed together with a 12MP, 123 degrees ultrawide and a couple of 5MP depth and macro lenses. An LED flash is also housed together on the camera panel. On the front is a 32MP selfie shooter with an HDR feature. The photo and video quality of the phone are yet to be known, but with the past releases from Samsung, one can expect a decent performance.
The phone can record 4K resolution videos from both the front and the back cameras. However, both cameras are limited to 30fps only, which is a bit upsetting. The rear camera should at least have the option to record videos in 4K @60fps. The main camera has both OIS and PDAF features for better and smooth photos and videos.
Performance and memory
Samsung Galaxy A73 5G runs on Samsung’s own One UI 4.1 based on the latest Android 12. Samsung has announced its smartphones will get at least four years of Android updates. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G (6nm) chipset and the graphical duty is handled by Adreno 642L. Samsung has opted for the Snapdragon chipset in this model instead of its own, Exynos, which was used in both Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A33 5G.
The phone has either 6GB or 8GB of RAM option coupled up with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The user has the option to expand the memory using a microSD card. There is no dedicated slot for the microSD card on the phone and the user has to sacrifice one of the two sims on the phone.
Battery life, connectivity and others
No changes have been made in terms of battery life as well. Samsung Galaxy A73 5G features a 5,000mAh non-removable li-po battery and gets charged through 25W fast charging support. However, the battery performance can be expected to be more efficient as the phone features a more power-efficient chipset.
The phone supports a dual 5G network along with dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0. The phone is also NFC enabled and uses USB Type-C 2.0 cable for further connectivity. As for the audio, the phone features Hi-res speakers, but there is no mention of the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Samsung Galaxy A73 5G is priced at RM 2,099.00. We can expect a price range of Rs 65,000 when it gets launched here in Nepal.
