Kathmandu, December 19
A police investigation has found that bets worth tens of millions have been made from Nepal through a betting application called 1XBet during the 2022 FIFA World Cup football in Qatar.
Betting is illegal in Nepal.
According to the valley’s Crime Investigation Office, Sunil Chaguthee and Ajay Bhele of Bhaktapur had been involved in betting transactions worth Rs 30 million.
According to SP Krishna Koirala of the office, out of Chaguthee’s 25 bank accounts, the police had accessed eight from which transactions worth Rs 24.5 million were made. Out of Bhele’s 19 bank accounts, police were able to access five from which transactions of little over Rs 6 million were made.
“We are trying to get access to their other bank accounts,” says Koirala.
Earlier, 21-year-old Adarsh Thakur of Lalitpur, who was arrested by the office, was also reported to have made transactions of more than Rs 20 million on 1XBet.
