Kathmandu, July 16
A severe flood and landslide in Rukum West’s Aathbiskot Municipality have resulted in the death of one person, with three others trapped inside their homes.
The disaster struck Bhimachaur late last night, sweeping away two houses and one shed. The floods originated from the Giza River, which swelled due to relentless rainfall.
Police Inspector Bakhat Shahi from the District Police Office, Rukum West, confirmed the casualty, stating, “One body was found outside. Three others remain trapped inside their home, and their condition is currently unknown.”
Several individuals sustained injuries and were promptly rescued by locals, who transported them to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Pant, Police Chief Navaraj Pokhrel, and a team from the District Disaster Management have arrived at the scene to assist with rescue operations.
Initial reports indicate additional damage in Ward No. 12 of Aathbiskot Municipality, with floods from the Tatopani Khola and Jhichaure Khola causing destruction. Detailed information about these areas is still pending.
The Dhurseni settlement in Ward No. 11 is also at risk due to the flooding from the Shobha River, according to local sources.
Continuous rainfall has triggered landslides, blocking the Radhi-Rimna road section. Roads obstructed in Dhurseni, Bojhabari Khola, Chisapani, and Bhalma Khola were cleared with the help of bulldozers.
Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and stay updated on weather alerts as rescue and relief efforts continue.
