Dhanusha ranks first on list for going foreign employment, followed by Jhapa

In the past year, the Terai districts have seen the highest number of people going abroad for employment, while the Himalayan districts have seen the least.

According to the Department of Foreign Employment, Dhanusha ranks first in foreign employment, followed by Jhapa. In the fiscal year 2080/81, 39,107 people went abroad for employment from Dhanusha, and 34,362 from Jhapa.

Following Dhanusha and Jhapa, the districts with the highest numbers going abroad for employment are Morang, Siraha, Mahottari, Sunsari, Rupandehi, Sarlahi, and Saptari. According to the department, 31,097 people went from Morang, 30,930 from Siraha, 27,350 from Mahottari, 23,949 from Sunsari, 23,606 from Rupandehi, 21,243 from Sarlahi, and 20,460 from Saptari.

These numbers include both new and renewed labour approvals. The majority of these people have gone to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia for employment.

On the other hand, the Himalayan districts have the lowest numbers going abroad for employment. According to the department’s statistics, 179 people went from Manang, 259 from Mustang, 537 from Mugu, 561 from Humla, and 512 from Dolpa. These numbers also include both new and renewed labour approvals.

In the last fiscal year 2023/24 a total of 741,000 Nepalis went abroad for employment.
