Barcelona, December 13
In a special program held in Barcelona, 33 journalists and media professionals from various countries were honoured. The Citizenship and Diversity Department of the ruling Socialists’ Party of Catalonia (SPC) organised the event on Thursday evening to recognise journalists.
In this program, Nepali journalist Basanta Ranabhat was specially honored. Residing in Spain for nearly 15 years, Ranabhat has been associated with Onlinekhabar for over a decade. Ranabhat was presented with a certificate of honor by Carlos Prieto Gomez, Catalonia’s representative from the Spanish government.
Speaking at the ceremony, Carlos Prieto Gomez appreciated the contributions of journalists in strengthening Spain’s multicultural society. He said, “Journalists play a significant role not only in the dissemination of information but also in fostering understanding and tolerance among diverse communities within the country. Their contribution is commendable.”
After receiving the honor, journalist Basanta Ranabhat delivered a speech, expressing pride and happiness in representing Nepal on an international platform. He said, “This honor is not just for me but for Nepal and the Nepali community as well. I believe it will further strengthen the bonds between our cultures.”
The program was coordinated by Catalonia’s parliamentarian Ernesto Carrion Sablich , who highlighted the importance of journalists in building a multicultural society. He said, “This recognition reflects Catalonia’s value of social diversity and coexistence. The contributions of media professionals from various communities toward building an inclusive society are invaluable.”
