Injured Indian robber involved in Nepal’s bank heist arrested

An Indian national involved in a bank robbery in Nepal and on the run has been arrested in an injured condition in Siraha. The suspect, identified as Arif Hussain, also known as Arif Khan, was apprehended near the Nepal-India border at Madar, Siraha Municipality-17, according to Siraha Police spokesperson DSP Birendra Kumar Paswan.

Police detained Arif on December 14 while he was fleeing from India to Nepal with injuries to his hands, legs, and other body parts. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by DSP Paswan intercepted him and took him into custody. Arif received treatment at Siraha Provincial Hospital and was later transferred to the Area Police Office in Mirchaiya for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Arif is a fugitive linked to a bank robbery on May 30, 2023, where an armed group of 4-5 men looted Rs 3.8 million from an NMB Bank branch in Mahottari Rural Municipality-2. He is also implicated in a February 21, 2023, robbery where four armed men looted Rs 900,000 from a Global IME Bank staffer near Bataha Bridge, Mirchaiya.

Indian police have also charged Arif with multiple crimes, including armed robbery, in Madhubani district, Bihar, and had announced a reward of INR 25,000 for his arrest.
