Kathmandu, December 20

The body of 17-year-old Sarita Tamang, a resident of Chandragiri Municipality-10, Satungal Kharibot, was found hidden under a bed following her murder. Investigations revealed the truth after her mobile phone was discovered.

Sarita was reported missing on the night of December 13. Her brother, Navin Rumba Tamang, filed a report with the Thankot Police Circle on December 15, stating that she had been missing since midnight on December 13. Originally from Gajuri Rural Municipality-4 in Dhading, Sarita had been residing in a rented room in Chandragiri.

On December 17, at around 3 pm, her body was found in a ground-floor room of a house owned by Birendra Shrestha in Chandragiri-10. She had been staying in a rented room in the same house.

Following the discovery, a joint investigation team from Thankot Police Circle and the Kathmandu District Police Office was deployed. Her family confirmed that Sarita used a mobile phone, which became a key focus of the investigation.

According to an investigating officer, tracking the mobile phone led to the identification of the accused, 24-year-old Bishwas Tamang, originally from Gajuri-3, Dhading, and currently residing in Kathmandu-14, Khadka Gaun. Sarita’s mobile phone was found in Bishwas’s room, and he confessed to his involvement during interrogation.

Bishwas, a relative of Sarita, was arrested from his room at 9:30 pm on December 18. He admitted to the murder, claiming that it occurred during a minor dispute. After Sarita’s death, her body was hidden under a bed in the room.

The police have initiated an investigation under charges of homicide after obtaining a remand from the Kathmandu District Court. Sarita was a 10th-grade student at Bishnudevi Shiksha Sadan Secondary School in Naikap.
