Sunaina Pandey elected unopposed as CAN Federation President

Kathmandu, December 26

Sunaina Ghimire Pandey has been elected unopposed as the President of the Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) Federation.

Pandey’s unopposed election to the top post was confirmed as she was the only nominee during Wednesday’s nomination process for the new executive committee, according to CAN Federation General Secretary Chiranjibi Adhikari.

Adhikari stated that the 31st Annual General Assembly and 15th General Convention of CAN Federation have resulted in the organisation getting its first female president, Sunaina Ghimire Pandey.

The 15th General Convention is scheduled for Saturday, December 28. Pandey, who has extensive experience in the information technology sector spanning over 25 years, has previously served in various roles within CAN Federation, including Secretary, General Secretary, and its first female Vice President.

Pandey, Managing Director of General Technology, had contested for the presidency in the 2019 elections against Navaraj Kunwar while serving as Vice President. At the time, her team member Ranjit Poddar was elected President. Poddar was later re-elected unopposed in the 2022 election and will hand over the presidency to Pandey next week.

While the President’s position was decided unopposed, elections will be held for other posts.

As per CAN’s structure, candidates must first be elected as members before vying for other positions. The CAN Federation’s central executive committee comprises 43 members, including nominees, who will elect office-bearers from among themselves.
