Kathmandu, January 26
The Khotang District Court has convicted Madan Rai on charges of sexual abuse of minors. Rai was found guilty of sexually abusing young girls and teenagers studying at the Subhadra Madan Foundation, which he himself had established.
A bench led by Judge Narayan Prasad Dahal delivered the verdict on January 23, according to Sudip Bhattarai, the Information Officer of the Khotang District Court. A separate hearing to determine Rai’s sentence has been scheduled for February 7. In cases where the accused faces more than three years of imprisonment, a separate hearing is required for sentencing.
Setopati Online had reported one and a half years ago that Madan Rai had been sexually abusing young girls at the foundation for a long time. Following this revelation, the police took Rai into custody.
Subsequent investigations led to formal charges being filed against him.
