Kathmandu, February 7
Dalit Lives Matter, a global movement advocating for the rights of Dalits, has reiterated its commitment to ending caste-based violence and discrimination. The movement, founded in response to the 2020 Rukum West massacre of Nawaraj BK and his five friends, continues to push for justice and equality.
In a press statement, the group emphasised that casteism remains a major obstacle to Nepal’s social and economic progress. It lamented the lack of critical discourse and solution-driven dialogues on the issue. Dalits and other marginalised communities continue to face systemic exclusion, economic hardship, and violence.
The movement stressed that Nepal must address structural discrimination to ensure equal opportunities for all. Dalit Lives Matter is actively working to raise awareness and demand policy reforms to eliminate caste-based injustices. It called on government bodies, civil society, and the public to support their mission and foster an inclusive society.
The movement remains steadfast in its fight against all forms of discrimination, urging collective efforts to dismantle the caste hierarchy and ensure justice for affected communities.
