Kathmandu, February 19
After a long hiatus, rock band 1974 AD will perform live in Kathmandu on April 5 at the Hyatt Ground, marking their 30th anniversary.
The event has been named Rock Yatra-2, the successor to Rock Yatra, which was held at Dasarath Rangashala in 2002. Rock Yatra is still remembered as one of the largest concerts ever held in Nepal.
During a press conference on Tuesday, the band officially announced the concert. Reflecting on the original Rock Yatra, Manoj Kumar KC, the guitarist of 1974 AD, described it as a milestone in Nepal’s music scene.
“It was a learning experience. We gained valuable insights into the technical aspects of live shows from Rock Yatra,” he said.
When asked why Dasarath Rangashala was not chosen for the second edition of Rock Yatra, KC explained that the venue is primarily a sports arena. “Rather than focusing on the venue, we are prioritizing the quality of the concert,” he added.
According to the organizers, the event will not only feature music but also include special activities for families, food stalls, and much more.
“Our goal is to create a memorable experience for everyone who attends,” said Anuj Karki, the band’s manager. “We are combining entertainment, culture, and community in a way that truly celebrates the spirit of the event.”
Speaking at the event, Nirakar Yakthumba, the founding member and bassist of the band, said, “Through this concert, we aim to demonstrate that Nepal is capable of organizing a world-class show using its own local talent and resources.”
