Kathmandu, June 29
The government of Nepal has banned the use of facebook and YouTube at Tribhuvan International Airport.
It took the move after media reported that employees of Immigration Office at TIA were busy chatting on facebook instead of catering to service-seekers.
Uddav Prasaad Timalsina, acting chief of the office, said they have blocked and banned the use of facebook and YouTube at both Arrival and Departure counters.
He said: We took this step hoping that we won’t have to deal with complaints that employees were busy with facebook instead of doing their job.
A few days ago, a service-seeker had posted on social network sites pictures of immigration office employees chatting on facebook.
The pictures went viral and Prime Minister’s Office sought clarification from the immigration office.
The office has informed PMO about the ban on the use of facebook and YouTube.
Singhadurbar, the government secretariat, has also blocked facebook on its premises.
